What to Put in a New Mom Care Package

1. Bathrobe

Ekouaer Nursing Robe

Those first several days (and even weeks) of being a brand new mom require being up round the clock for feeding baby on demand. There is nothing more convenient than being in a bathrobe during this time, especially one like this.

It is so soft and stylish that it passes for being appropriate to stay in while guests come visit the newborn. And, a bathrobe makes doing skin-to-skin contact (an important practice with mom and newborn) very easy to do.

I wish I would have had multiple robes to wear after my deliveries. With over 2,500 five star reviews on Amazon, I think most moms would agree with me. I practically lived in mine and definitely could have used more than one.

2. Nursing Pajamas

Smallshow Maternity Nursing Tops

I had it in my head that I did not need nursing clothes, that I could just wear regular button-down tops and blouses and be fine. And technically, I was fine, but I didn’t know what I was missing out on…

It wasn’t until my mother-in-law came over and gave me a nursing shirt that I realized how incredibly convenient they are. And when you are so tired with your newborn, convenience is a must! This particular nursing shirt has nearly 7,000 five star reviews on Amazon!

4. Nursing Dress

8. Postnatal Vitamins

Postnatal vitamins as a gift idea to include in a postpartum care package

Nature Made Postnatal Multivitamin

Postnatal vitamins are a perfect addition to include in your new nom care package because all moms need them. If not breastfeeding, taking a multivitamin is still recommended for up to 6 months post delivery. For breastfeeding moms, a postnatal vitamin is recommended for as long as the mom is breastfeeding.

In the excitement of our newborn, I had forgotten about postnatal vitamins and was not taking any until a family friend showed up with several bottles as her gift. I was beyond grateful, especially because vitamins are expensive and add up fast with how long you have to take them as a new mom.

9. Pain Reliever

Gifting medicine might seem odd, but Ibuprofen is a very thoughtful addition in your postpartum care package. It is one of the painkillers that is safe to take while breastfeeding. 15. Water Bottle with a Straw

30 oz mug/tumbler with lid and straw as part of a new mom care package

Sursip 30 oz Insulated Mug/Tumbler with Lid and Straw

“Every breastfeeding mom needs a big cup with a straw.” That is the advice my sister was told when a mom friend learned she was coming to stay with me after our newborn arrived. We both thought that was funny advice, but my sister listened to her friend, and I am SO GLAD she did.

I had no idea about the amount of THIRST that comes with breastfeeding/pumping. Having a big cup of water at my nightstand, as well as in the nursery, was very much needed and appreciated. Having your hands tied up with holding the baby makes having the straw incredibly convenient because you can just lean over to take a sip–a simple convenience that makes a big difference.

Of all the gift ideas you can include in your new mom care package, this one is number one in my book.

16. Keepsake

New moms barely have time to shower, let alone wash their hair. Batiste is one of the most universal dry shampoos, as it works great on fine hair, thick hair, and anything in between. This will be a much appreciated gift in your new mom care package.

21. Hairbrush

The Tangle Teezer

If the mom you are shopping for likes head massages, she will LOVE this brush. Over 73,000 people–yes, seventy-three thousand–give this brush five stars! It is meant for brushing wet hair, as it moves through tangles like they don’t even exist.

But I love it for dry hair, too. Its bristles feel so good; it will become a favorite of the newborn baby (once the baby becomes a toddler), because the brush is that gentle. My kids and I are obsessed with mine. This brush makes a great addition to any new mom care package.

22. Nail Strips

Dashing Diva Gloss Nail Strips

These are so much fun. I love these! I don’t normally get manicures; I am more of a pedicure gal, but I received these while I was on maternity leave and thought they were such a fun gift to be pampered with.

New moms rarely have time for themselves. Stepping away to go to a nail salon, especially in the early stages of being a brand new mom, is hard to do. These nail strips help you feel and look good. I think they look even better than actual nail polish and last longer, too! The Dashing Diva Gloss Nail Strips are a hit with the women in my family.

23. Vitamin C Serum

Bottle of vitamin C serum

Glow Maker by MaeLove

For any new mom who is suffering from “the pregnancy mask”, or melasma, I highly recommend the Glow Maker by MaeLove. And even if the mom you are shopping for does not have melasma, she will still absolutely LOVE this product!

It brightens your face and makes you feel extra beautiful. Finally, a vitamin C serum that is not crazy expensive that actually works!

This is one of my most favorite self care products I have. I absolutely LOVE it.

Tip: Do it twice a day. After washing and drying your face, apply the serum and wait 90 seconds before doing the next part of your routine (i.e. makeup, lotion, etc.). Buy Glow Maker directly from MaeLove to ensure authenticity (verses purchasing from another website like Amazon).

24. A Book for Moms

The Magic of Motherhood, by Ashlee Gadd

This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. I was given this book when I was pregnant with my firstborn, and it would be a lovely gift in your new mom care package. The heartfelt stories told by real moms are very touching. The stories are so relatable and moving.

25. A Book on All-Things Baby

Baby 411: Your Baby, Birth to Age 1, by Dr. Ari Brown and Denise Fields

This book is every mom’s dream because it covers literally any and every worry or concern a parent could possibly have regarding their baby’s health, nutrition, and overall development. The easy to read and to the point layout is what I love the most about this book.

It was by far our most used baby item and would be a great addition to your new mom care package.

Apple Airpods

I did not realize how hard it would be to talk on the phone once I became a mom. I had never used wireless headphones before becoming a mom, and I am so grateful these things exist. The more hands free a mom can be, the better!

27. Neck and Shoulder Massager

Massager with Heat – Deep Tissue Kneading Electric Massage

The repetitive motion of bending over the bassinet, bending over to breastfeed, bending over to just hold the baby causes a lot of tension and ache in the neck and shoulders. Any new mom would not hesitate to try out this massager!

28. Foot Massager

Foot massager as part of a new mom care package

RENPHO Foot Massager

After all the weight gain and then all the weight loss from being pregnant to not pregnant, my feet became wrecked. The arches lowered, my shoe size went up, the plantar fasciitis became hard to tolerate. This foot massager has helped me so much.

Not only has it been amazing for me, but my husband now loves it. My brother-in-law and mother-in-law now have this same exact foot massager, and so do my siblings. This is a well loved machine and has almost 20,000 five star reviews on Amazon!

29. Gift Cards

  • A massage studio
  • An Amazon gift card
  • A Visa gift card
  • A local favorite restaurant
  • A food subscription to somewhere like Hello Fresh

30. Healthy Snacks

Homemade granola bars on a cutting board

From homemade granola bars (or store bought), to trail mix, to produce…any healthy snack to include in the new mom care package would be greatly appreciated, I am sure! Thinking about food for yourself can be hard to do when you’ve got baby on your mind. Help her get the nourishment she needs by taking the thought out of it for her with some healthy go-to snacks.

On That Note of Healthy Snacks…

Plate of salad

Anytime anyone asked me, “How can I help?” when I was brand new to being a mom, my answer was always food. And if anyone were to ask me now with my toddlers, my answer would still be food!

Everyone always needs to eat, but having the time and energy to prepare nutritious, tasty meals is much easier said than done as a busy mom.

That is why a Meal Train was one of the greatest gifts I ever received as a new mom, and so I just wanted to share this as another gift option even though it technically is not part of a new mom care package.

A meal train is a coordinated meal delivery system that is usually organized by a friend, family member, or colleague to organize meals for someone going through a big change, like becoming a parent.

Through the guidance of an app or website, like this one, people sign up to bring meals (typically a dinner) on a designated day and time for usually one to four weeks. People can drop off a homemade meal or provide takeout.

This is an awesome way to have everyone come together to show their support in welcoming the new baby. It allows the new mom and dad to just focus on being parents and not worry about preparing food for themselves.

No matter what you choose to put together for your new mom care package, she will be so touched! Happy shopping!
